Yes, you can use regular sugar cookie mix or even a tube of the prepackaged.
Another recipe that is a huge hit with everyone:
1-2 tubes sugar cookies
1 bag mini York pepermint patties (or other peanut free candies)
Slice cookies into thin disks & layer dough, candy, dough (no need to press down or anything). Bake per the package directions until done. The cookie dough will bake around the candy – so yummy!

You could use any cookie recipe, just place the hershey kiss on top of the cookie when it comes out of the oven.

just search for other “thumb print” cookies. just be aware that hershey klisses are processed on equipment that processes peanuts. theres a slight risk of trace amounts of peanut in the chocolate
